Te Maioha o Parekarangi

Te Maioha, located just outside of Rotorua is our school site in the Youth Justice facility. We can accommodate up to 30 students aged 14 to 17 in one of three residential units each with a spacious classroom for up to ten students.

“Te Maioha o Parekarangi”

A gift to the people of the residence, to benefit them, as an inclusive gift from everyone.

Our students at Te Maioha o Parekarangi arrive here because they have been remanded or sentenced by the Youth Court. They may stay from one week for several months.

At each of our Kingslea Schools at Youth Justice Facilities the classrooms have two homeroom teachers who teach the core curriculum with a focus on literacy, numeracy, gaining NCEA Lv1 & 2, vocational qualifications and PE, Hauora and Wellbeing. Two teachers are always present in the classroom with a ratio of 1:5. We have 2 specialist teachers for Arts and Technology, as well as a full time Agriculture Tutor who delivers our AG programme through Vocational Pathways in partnership with Oranga Tamariki and Pacific Coast Training Institute in specialist classrooms and on our Iwi Trust Dairy Farm.

Our aim is that time spent in our classrooms at Te Maioha o Parekarangi is both productive and constructive in preparation for our students to transition successfully back to secondary or tertiary education working towards achieving their individual goals outlined in their ILPs.
